Hugh is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant with over 18 years experience working in practice and in industry.
Hugh’s early training in practice gave him a solid understanding of the needs of small businesses. He also realised that his future was to be at the sharp end of business working in industry and dealing with the commercial reality of managing a business rather that in a distant office.
After leaving practice, Hugh moved to the commercial sector gaining experience in system implementation and development and learned the importance of reliable and timely information. He was in the head office of Wigoders retail chain of home DIY stores with responsibility for monitoring 23 nationwide outlets aswell as producing monthly margin reports and quarterly accounts. Hugh then progressed to The Response Group, a direct marketing company with a variety of services and complex management needs, employing over 150 staff. He was appointed as finance manager and subsequently Financial Controller with responsibility for managing all the group finances and substantial client monies.
As the number of small businesses grew in Ireland, it become clear that there was a strong demand for financial management expertise. In 2004, Lighthouse was formed so that small business could have access to relevant experience without the cost of employing a full time financial controller. Hugh is currently the Financial Controller of a number of small businesses, visiting them on a monthly basis to ensure their information needs are being met.
